AAAAHHHH SEIZURES!!!!

so modest mouse (an ok band) and Apple are having this contest. they have provided people with footage of the band playing a song off their new album in front of a green screen and whoever can make the best music video out of it wins the internets…. and some other stuff. there are a lot of things like this these days, itsyourshowtv, current.tv, colbert’s green screen challenge… but this one just hit me the right way. i am excited about participating, or at least giving it a shot. the footage they have is great, its high quality and well shot. i have a few ideas but one isn’t very good and the other is more than i could probably do.

so i implore you all to help me out a bit. i want some ideas… they don’t have to be much. just concepts or maybe an environment that one could take place in.

leave a comment or shoot me an email if something comes to mind (if you’re reading this on facebook you have to follow the links to the original post on my site to comment)

  1. Most of MM’s videos have been pretty dang creative… or at least conceptually sound. Since the shots (i assume) are all fairly open with the green screen… i’d make a point to make them part of an environment, that is unless you have an insane amount of time to devote to animation (similar to something like ‘good is good’ by sheryll crow”) i’d say your best shot is something indoors. It’s going to be tough to light anything to make it look as good as the original footage (i assume).

So, i’d say either go really abstract, maybe to the extent of some crazy animation (do you have good animators at collins?) or put together some sort of cool environments for them to play in.

This is one of those cases IMO that the blank canvas is by far the most intimidating… if you just start throwing random stuff out and run with it you could end up with a pretty decent final project.

  2. I vote you make them miniature in a giant world. Have them somehow dropped, carried, thrown through some sort of plot oriented sequence of events. I think the fact that they will just be oblivious and playing their instruments could be fun. That could actually be really cool with a mini-modest-mouse sometimes zoomed in on, or sometimes just tiny off to the side of some shot. In the end I vote you give them a (real) mouse audience. I dont care if this is lame, it seems fun in my head. I have no idea if all of that is feasable either, but I thought I’d try to help.
