Today I might actually…

I just got done with a few classes and let me tell you the end couldn’t have come sooner. For the most part Collins is great, but sometimes you get instructors that just don’t work out… and that makes going to class nothing but a chore.

Things are all good on the southwest front. I’m not working a whole lot but my rent is getting paid and I’m not starving so I can’t complain. The editing gig is officially bust, I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed being lied to. My latest pay check from the place bounced on it’s first try, so I might be making my first venture into small claims court… We’ll see.

I got to goto San Diego and see Bender this past weekend, which was great. We just chilled around San Diego’s downtown and went to Mission Beach. I also drank some Mead which was pretty good. I can’t say it was the most exciting trip I’ve ever taken, but I had a lot of fun just catching up with Nick. When we stepped abord his carrier for a tour I asked “Nick what happens if the Cylons were to come back right now?”
I thought it was funny :)

I am keeping quite busy with different projects. The internship for The EDGE 103.9 is still awesome and I’ve been doing a little editing for some friends at school.
The first thing I’ve got to share is an open to a show for The EDGE 103.9’s website. It’s an “AOL sessions” sort of show that features bands playing an acoustic show at the station’s studios.

Also availible in HD here.

I’ve been editing a couple of small contest projects for a group of friends and this is the latest one. It’s for Budget Rent A Car and has a pretty good chance of getting some recognition.

For a studio production class that just ended our group make a VH1 Behind the Music sort of documentary for a director who only directs for YouTube. It’s hil-freaking-larious if I do say so myself. We have a pretty good rough cut and in the coming weeks we hope to polish it up and maybe be slightly e-famous. Who knows, if nothing else it’s a great help to a friend’s DP reel.

That’s pretty much it for now, I get to go see a super secret Weezer show this week, I’ll have some photos to post from that later.

Reel 07

After what seems like months of work I give you my show reel for 2007. It’s a collection of many, many projects both new and old. The emphasis is on editing and my motion graphics work and I am very happy with how it turned out. I’ve gotten a lot of feedback on it and there are a few small changes that will be made in the coming week, but this is pretty much the finished product.

My reel is also filed under Resume in the Kinetic section of my site, there you will find a download link and an embed code.

Last Thursday Collins had a little event for students to show their work, and while at first I wasn’t sure that I wanted to go, I am so glad that I did. Not only did I get a few job opportunities, I got a ton of feedback on my reel, my resume and how to present myself. I feel I do well in interviews, but there are a lot of things to know about showing your work to people. My resume will also undergo some changes this week thanks to what was said about it on Thursday. After writing my e-mail and website on the bottom of four or five resumes it occurred to me that there is no reason that shouldn’t have been on there in the first place. I’m also in need of a more focused list of skills and a list of software and hardware I’ve used. People would look at my resume and ask me about my TV experience, not my production skills… and I really don’t think I’ll be looking for another TV job any time soon.

As a matter of fact the more I think about it, the more I think I am done with TV. A job doing actual production is my next challenge.

I’m still trying to work out a quick trip to Boise at the beginning of November. Bender will be home and I want to see the kid before he gets stationed. He is writing on his site again, and I am interested to hear more about his experience in basic training.
