A good weekend and other such things
I’ve had a pretty productive week.
I haven’t woken up before 11am, I’ve played about 15 hours of wow and have yet to start on a cinematography project that I’m actually pretty excited about. Despite all that the job hunt continues to go well, so I’m not too worried about my sloth.
My posts do now have a song attached to them… it’s not a wordpress plugin or anything, I used an open source flash player and wrote a small amount of PHP to have it display when I attach a song… /flex. If you read this on facebook you won’t see it because FB is kinda lame, just follow the “original post” link.
I’m in another screen writing class… and while I wasn’t looking forward to it, because I just had one this summer, it’s turning out to be pretty cool. At first I didn’t like the guy who is teaching it, but I’m quickly learning that I judged him too soon. The end goal for most people in the class is to write a full feature length script, I’m not sure I’ll be able to write that much but I’m going to try.
My script is a romanic comedy… which is different because I don’t like romantic comedies and I don’t really know much about them… so the old adage “write what you know” has gone out the window. It’s not only fun to write sometime completely different but it’s also fun to explain the premise to people. When I tell guys in my class that I’m writing a romantic comedy called “Flower Beds” they look at me like I’m crazy… which is completely possible, but as I explain about the characters I think people start to believe I can pull it off.
My past weekend was fun, me and some people went to down to First Fridays. Which is this cool event that takes place by downtown Phoenix… which is funny because even an event that bills itself as being “downtown” doesn’t even really happen in what is the world’s lamest downtown area. Nevertheless First Fridays is a market/art show that happens on the first friday of every month and it’s not only well attended it’s also got some really cool stuff to browse. We walked around and looked at paintings and listened musicians, we even saw some vegan cupcakes and a local comic book studio. On one corner there were these huge paintings, probably 15 feet tall, we looked at them for a bit and a guy came over and started explaining what they meant. The first two were a couple of the Beatitudes, a few others some random verses and the last about Revelation. I’ll be honest I’ve always found such outward expressions of one’s faith to be a bit corny. I believe that for the most part they turn people away more then they educate or compel people to come to Christ. This artist however was obviously very passionate about his work and other then the one about Revelation he was able to quickly and eloquently explain their meanings and why he felt they were important. It was nice to see a Christian who was passionate and extroverted about his faith but not fundamentalist or pushy.
The chess project continues to chug along, I don’t have all the drawings but I do have one colored and that’s pretty big for me.

I’d don’t really like his skin color yet, peaches and off whites are really hard to get right. I also still don’t have a 3D animator, but I can find one on SA if nothing else.
Take it easy, I will be.
